The material should be collected before the implementation of antimicrobial treatment or at least 1 week after the end of treatment (applies to mucous membranes) or 1 month after the end of treatment (applies to other sites).
On the day of the test, the skin lesion should not be lubricated (ointment, cream), because the mycelium shreds retreat into the skin. The collection site should be cleansed of cosmetics (face-powder, armpit-antiperspirant) on the day before the test. It is not allowed to clean the face of cosmetics just before the test.
For scalp scrapings, do not wash your head 2 days before the test
The nail plate should be clean, one day before the test, soaked in soapy water, not cut for about 1 week, without polish (polish should be washed off 1 day before the test, before soaking in soapy water).
Before collecting material from oral mucous membranes at least one hour before the test , do not: eat,drink sugary drinks/juices, chew gum, brush teeth or use mouthwash as well as lozenges and smoke.
For cultures from swabs of intimate areas, advance appointment booking is required.
For women
The patient should not: wash her vagina and have intercourse for 24 hours before the test.
For men
On the day of the test, the genital area should be washed without soap and gel. It is necessary to refrain from sexual contact for 24 hours.
